Talking with a Favorite Content Editor
Not a deep reviewI have truly enjoyed writing with the Hemingway editor for the past few years. The narrow options fit my desired writing style. Thus, I’m never (or seldom) offended by change recommendations. Understand that sometimes I don’t take the advice.
I gladly paid for the offline version. I can save draft posts or letters. I can work offline. Offline isn’t as crucial now that I have home wifi. Until recent days, I was limited to a hotspot or unpredictable connection.
A few months ago, I bought a new computer. I couldn’t figure out how to get Hemingway to work from old to new. I suspected that a new installation would be necessary.
SAD FACE
All of the new installations I could see seemed to be connected to Hemingway PLUS. Extra editing tools, artificial intelligence in particular, were prominent. Nothing in this editor appealed to me. The focus is on speed. I want to savor my writing. Take my time with construction. My dislike was fed by the new subscription price.
Call me old-fashioned, but I want to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a small tool. The AI on HEmingway PLUS seems too aggressive for my style and needs.
I was driven back to using the temporary online version. Confession: I was in a snit about the way things were going. Breaking up with Hemingway was nearing the top of my agenda.
HAPPY FACE
I found the original version. The price is still very nice. I’m permitted to write my own work with advice. I can choose to apply that advice or NOT. The price is a happy spot for me. Again, I gladly paid for the offline editor.
I do recommend this tool. It’s not aggressive. I can put my content into the editor and get the advice for clarity and SEO changes that I want. I prefer this to Grammarly which nags the living daylights out of me. Everything I write is invaded with advice. Advice which I disagree with more than I choose to apply. Behind every suggestion nag, there’s a push for MORE nagging with a subscription. No thank you. I’m sticking with the Hemingway editor.
I like to think that the Hemingway editor helps my SEO writing. It pulls ideas together at a speed reading level without letting the writer sound dumber than they are. Don’t get me wrong. The lower cost Hemingway editor will let you be as dumb as you want. There are only sentence structure suggestions. None of the spelling corrections and usage that we’ve come to depend upon in other software.
A LITTLE PAPA
A bit of the appeal for the Hemingway editor lies in interest in author Ernest Hemingway. This man earned a living with his writing. He did it without a gentle keyboard, duo screens, undo, delete, backspace, copy/paste, upload, email, and word correct.
All these beautiful tools can’t stop writer’s block for bloggers. Sometimes pencil and paper — a good old ‘wood processor’ help me get the words out. I keep a manual, portable typewriter among my treasures. You understand that the Hemingway Editor won’t help me with pen or portable.
When I lived near Springfield, Missouri, the Bass Pro store was also enamored of Hemingway. Their upstairs restaurant was called Hemingway’s. A buffet with a menu and delightful ambiance made Hemingway’s a favorite treat for me. The restaurant decor featured photos and memorabilia. Aquariums surrounded some walls. An elevator approach lifted me past cascading water falls. Bass Pro and Hemingway’s could entertain me for hours when we made a trip to the Big City.
NOT A DEEP REVIEW OF EDITORS
I’m happy with my Hemingway Editor. And too busy with other projects to worry about other options that might or might not be better. There are several out there for you to experiment with. I’ve mentioned that I don’t like Grammarly. Many people really do like and use the tool. My experience has been that it doesn’t work for me.
